Our annual kick off for Advent is here, beginning with our Nativity Sheep Trail. All are welcome to participate and enjoy a wonderfully, bubbly tradition preparing for the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Advent preparation for Christmas is about giving to loved ones, friends, and family, attending more consciously to the needs of others as Christ did for us.
Scripture describes the three wise men bringing frankinscense, gold and myrth to the Christ Child and his parents. We remind one another of their giving of gifts by helping the poor. John 3:16 tells of the gift that God gave the world, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son that whomsoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
For me, Advent is a gentle reminder that through my own struggles, hunger, broken dreams, drugs, heartache, utter devastation, through it all I ALWAYS went to God. In the end and as scripture states in Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry, you gave me to eat, when I was thirsty you gave me drink, when I was a stranger you welcomed me.”
The advent Adventure!
Please come and join us in the Nativity Sheep Trail. Beautifully crocheted sheep were lovingly created in the Arts and Crafts Group of the Frisbie Senior Center and by members of the Salvation Army. The oh so cleverly colored creations have been adopted and given a name as well. They have been adopted by local Des Plaines businesses and placed in their windows or entrance ways.
The businesses, whom have generously donated to our cause are listed in the Nativity Sheep Trail flyer along with their addresses. They are waiting enthusiastically for you to find their beloved sheep! Seek the special sheep listed on your flyer, write down all their names, then turn in that page to Once & Again
Boutique and find a tasty cookie and a smile. Keep the other half of the flyer with the Christmas story and a coloring page.
If you would like to enter into a raffle for a small prize, please fill in the tiny form in the flyer. Winners will be notified by phone.
Leaflets (2017 leaflet) will be available at: participating businesses, the annual holiday tree-lighting at Metropolitan Square, and The Salvation Army, 609 W. Dempster. Businesses supporting the Nativity Sheep Trail are: El Mexico Restaurant, Millenium Bank, B’s Sweet Bites, Mr. Pup Restaurant, CR Flowers, Starvin’ Artist, MBD Martial Arts Academy, Andy’s Restaurant, Once & Again Boutique, Soto Supermercado, and Des Plaines Honda.
The Nativity Sheep Trail is sponsored by Breakfast with Baby at The Salvation Army, Des Plaines.
